Rasmussen is out with it's latest poll of Georgia, and it finds good news for Sen. Saxby Chambliss, who is up for his first re-election after defeating former Sen. Max Cleland in 2002. Chambliss racks up 51% of the vote to potential challenger Dale Cardwell's 37%. That 14% margin is the closest it gets for Chambliss, as he beats Democratic frontrunners Jim Martin and Vernon Jones by 21% and 28% respectively.
Martin, a former state legislator and the 2006 Democratic Lt. Governor nominee is considered by many party insiders to have the best chance of running a competitive race. Those same insiders fear the candidacy of Jones, the controversal outgoing DeKalb County CEO. At the moment, Rasmussen's numbers don't exactly show much of a difference - though Jones gets just 30% of the vote in a potential matchup, Martin is only doing 3 points better.
